Feeding America

Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity created a formal partnership with Feeding America in the summer of 2013. The mission of Feeding America is to fight to end hunger. This combines with Lambda Chi Alpha’s mission to instill values in young men.

This mission alignment has allowed us to implement this partnership successfully. Since our partnership has begun, Lambda Chi Alpha chapters nationwide have provided over 18 million meals for hungry families in America. Thanks to Feeding America, our men have additional opportunities to live our values and make a lasting impact within their community.

Watermelon Fest

Watermelon Fest

To support Feeding America, the Mississippi State chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha hosts its annual Watermelon Fest. This massive philanthropic function is one of the largest on campus with months of planning going into the event. Each year all sororities are asked to donate canned food to be donated to the local food pantry in Starkville. Sound boring? Not at all. During Watermelon Fest, sororities compete to see who can donate the most canned goods, a competition that some ladies have called “the most fun they’ve ever had” on campus.

At the end of the week, each freshmen sorority member on campus marches to the Lambda Chi house, chanting and painted with their sorority letters. The ladies then compete in races, a volleyball tournament, a Watermelon Queen pageant, and much more. The sorority who receives the most points throughout all competitions receives the trophy until the fun starts the next year. Messy and fun, Watermelon Fest has been a success for years. For this success, the chapter has the amazing ladies of each sorority to thank for their astounding spirit and generosity.

Crawfish Boil

Each spring, the chapter also hosts a crawfish boil fundraiser to support Feeding America. Since its beginning, the event has been a resounding success. This past year, Lambda Chi raised $2,600 to support Feeding America and the Starkville community.
